Journalism Course. Intensive

Who the intensive journalism courses are designed for: those who want to become journalists in print or online publications, bloggers, copywriters, as well as those who simply want to learn how to write materials of any orientation and any genre.

The frequency and timing of classes is tailored to each group. Flexible approach to the schedule, taking into account the interests and abilities of all potential students.

Intensive courses in journalism involves a combination of practical (80%) and theoretical (20%) approach to the study of material.

Course objective: to learn how to work correctly with textual information products depending on their genre affiliation.

As a result of studying the discipline you will:

  • Know the stages of work on the text, the structure of the text.
  • Get acquainted with the laws of composition, the logic of the construction of the text, the interdependence of its form and content.
  • Learn to work with the concepts of “theme” and “idea”, identify them in texts, master ways of recognizing and overcoming stereotypes and cliches.
  • Examine the basic components of complex headlines, types of headlines, their tasks and specifics.
  • Examine the genres of journalism (informational, analytical, fiction-publicistic), their characteristics and the prerequisites for choosing a genre in a specific situation.
  • You will learn in detail about the main genres of modern print and Internet media.
  • You will learn about the most widespread mistakes in texts, the rules of writing high-quality content, the choice of topics and ways to find information.
  • You will go into practice “in the fields”, that is, at various events in order to master the writing of multi-genre materials from the field.
  • You will write a lot of texts, which will allow you to form a real journalist in the future;

Each class will practice writing and editing texts, analyze your own materials and the texts of your colleagues, and discuss homework.

Journalism thesis courses:

  • Text in print journalism, its basic elements. The headline in the newspaper and on the website. Newspaper layout and design: basic principles.
  • Ways of presenting information. Methods of presentation and types of texts in the newspaper and on the site (types and genres of journalism). Compositional features of various genres. The logic of the composition of the journalistic text.
  • Work with factual material. Verification of information. Sources of information: where does the news come from. Legal and ethical aspects of journalistic work.
  • Information genres. Information (notes, correspondence).
